Hey, welcome to another Dan's ToyBox Action Figure Review. Diving back into the world of Hasbro's G.I. Joe Classified line this week, today's review features the venomous Cobra agent: Copperhead! Hope you enjoy our thoughts on the subject! If you do, leave a like and comment below.
Copperhead is a fictional character from the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toy line, comic books, and animated series. He is a Water Moccasin pilot for the terrorist organization Cobra. Copperhead’s military specialty is air-driver swamp vehicle operator. He is believed to be a native of the Florida Everglades and has immeasurable knowledge of the area. Copperhead is also familiar with seaborne demolitions and high-speed naval assault vehicles. He is a gifted mechanic, spending much of his time elbow-deep in the transmissions of various Cobra watercraft, customizing and tuning them for maximum performance in jungle and swamp operations. Rumor has it, Copperhead has a problem with gambling and turned to Cobra as a means to pay off his bookies and loan sharks.
Accessories: 8/10
Copperhead comes with an array of accessories that enhance the play and display value of this action figure. Included in the package are a removable back holster, a machete, a Luger style pistol, and a long barrel revolver with scope. The back holster is well-designed and fits snugly on Copperhead's back. Copperhead also has a holster at his hip for the smaller pistol and a partial sheath on a floating belt for the machete. I'm a fan of how Hasbro designs the Joe figures so that they can carry the bulk of their equipment.
Appearance: 9/10
The Hasbro G.I. Joe Classified Series #72 Copperhead figure boasts an exceptional level of detail that is sure to please collectors and fans alike. Standing at 6 inches tall, this action figure is perfectly proportioned with a realistic, muscular build. The sculpting and paintwork on Copperhead's outfit are top-notch, with very clean paint applications on his pants, shirt, and helmet. I did have a couple of small paint chips on one of his legs, which while not terribly big were, nonetheless, irksome. The silver Cobra sigil on his chest is applied very well and stands out against the green of his tank top. Of special note is the terrific design of his tattoo. I was pleasantly surprised to see how detailed it was, and the fact that it was actually included on the figure makes it so much better. I would have liked to see just a bit more paint details... maybe more silver on his belts, harness, and boots, to give added depth. The silver bullets on his back holster are a very nice touch as is the textured detail. I added a small drop of glue to the arm bands and the leg holster, as they had a tendency to slide downward.
Articulation: 8/10
One of the standout features of the Hasbro G.I. Joe Classified Series is its impressive articulation, and Copperhead is no exception. His head, due in part to the helmet, is limited in up/down range, but can tilt side to side and turn easily enough. Thanks to the neck joint, we do get a bit more head movement, but not much. The shoulders are on butterfly joints, but again, because of the peg design, the range is limited for both forward and backward movement. The shoulders will rotate a full 360 degrees, and the bicep swivels work fine. The elbows are double-jointed and bend in very deep, with limitation because of the arm bands. His wrists are on a vertical hinge for weapons and can turn easily enough. The upper torso has good range, even with his battle harness and the lower diaphragm joint increases crunch and twist, along with some side tilting. The legs are on drop down features and can do an almost complete split, kick forward reasonably high and have a small degree of back kick. The thigh swivels are fine, and the double-jointed knees offer solid bend. There is a shin swivel, and the ankles have fantastic hinge and pivot range. Sadly, the joints on mine are a bit loose, so I'll need to do something about that, moving forward.
Affordability: 8/10
The best part of this figure is that it didn't cost me a penny. Mrs. ToyBox gave it to me as one of my anniversary gifts this year. That being said, Copperhead retails on sites like BBTS for $25.99. One thing I've been told is that since Hasbro owns the actual rights to G.I. Joe, they can pack a lot more into their figures... and likely work better engineering as well, while keeping them equal or lower in price to Marvel Legends. Ironically, I see Joe Classified figures for $21.99 in my local Walmart, while the Retro Card Joe Figures are priced at $25.99.
Overall the Hasbro G.I. Joe Classified Series #72 Copperhead figure is a fantastic addition to the G.I. Joe lineup. It excels in all key categories, from appearance and accessories to articulation and affordability. The attention to detail in sculpting and paintwork, along with the character's faithful representation, is commendable. Copperhead's high level of articulation and the included accessories make him a versatile figure for both collectors and those who enjoy interactive play. Copperhead slithers into your collection with style and substance, earning a well-deserved:
