One by one, the Deadpool/Wolverine movie figures are starting to drop and today we're looking at Hasbro's Marvel Legends Wolverine. Seeing Hugh Jackman decked out in full costume was one of the best movie experiences to date. When he pulled that familiar mask up, over his head, the theater went nuts. If you've not seen the movie... go, watch it now, then come back for my review!
In Deadpool 3, Wolverine teams up (and clashes) with Deadpool, marking an epic crossover. The movie revisits Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, now intersecting with Deadpool’s irreverent world. Wolverine's unbreakable adamantium claws, healing factor, and gruff persona contrast hilariously with Deadpool's chaotic humor. The two have an uneasy partnership fueled by their mutual disdain for one another and shared disdain for authority. Wolverine’s role in this multiverse story showcases both his heroic instincts and his gritty, lone-wolf attitude, balancing action-packed scenes with comedic moments.
Accessories: 9/10
The accessories include two distinct head sculpts and two pairs of hands, offering flexibility in display. The unmasked Hugh Jackman head sculpt captures his rugged likeness well, from the expressive brow to the scruffy facial hair. Meanwhile, the masked head captures Wolverine’s classic look, with a furrowed brow that hints at his gritty personality. The alternate hands—one pair with claws and another without—are a great addition, allowing for dynamic posing in either combat-ready or relaxed stances. The claws are well-detailed and sturdy, enhancing the overall look of each pose. The only real issue I have is that both middle claws are slightly warped, making them bend slightly.
Appearance: 10/10
The sculpt and paint applications on this Wolverine are outstanding. The unmasked head has a striking likeness to Hugh Jackman, with lifelike paint applications that make this Wolverine look movie accurate. The masked head retains that fierce Wolverine expression we all know and love, with sharp paint details on the eyes and mask. The costume’s sculpted textures add realism, from the seam lines to the belt and boots, giving Wolverine a rugged look that stands out on display. I was particularly impressed with the little silver dots on the front of his suit, sadly though they are symmetrical on the back, the backside isn't painted. However, that's really the only complaint I have about the look of the figure. The unmasked head is astounding, the costume design really meets the film look and the figure is clean in all the paint applications.
Articulation: 7/10
Articulation is generally strong, but there are a couple of issues. The shoulder joints feel sticky, which can make posing a bit nerve-wracking, especially for collectors wary of joint stress over time. Additionally, rotating the arms 360 degrees poses a risk due to stiffness around the shoulders, which could lead to wear or even potential damage if handled too forcefully. I had to heat the shoulders up for quite a while to get rotation and the clicking noise, coupled with a very gummy feel is disturbing. The shoulder pads are attached to the ball joint at the shoulder, which allows them to rotate as well. However, trying to raise the arms out to a T pose is limited, because of those shoulder pieces. On the positive side, the figure still offers a decent range of motion with its double-jointed elbows, knee articulation, and torso crunch, allowing for classic Wolverine action poses. Both head sculpts can look up and down reasonably well and the ab crunch is the old design, ab hinge, with a waist rotation. Thankfully his belt helps to conceal the cut fairly well. His legs can kick up to 90 degrees and can do a fairly reasonable split. There is no boot cut, which is fine because it's really not needed on this figure. The ankle pivot works well and holds poses nicely.
Affordability: 8/10
With a price point that aligns with other Marvel Legends figures, this Wolverine provides solid value. Given the impressive head sculpts, intricate costume detailing, and the versatility of accessories, it’s a worthwhile investment for collectors and Wolverine fans alike. However, some might find the joint concerns a drawback that slightly detracts from the figure’s overall value. I snagged mine on BBTS for $25.99 and am fine with the pricing.
Hasbro’s Wolverine from the Deadpool/Wolverine line delivers a well-rounded figure with exceptional likeness, fantastic sculpt detail, and functional accessories. Although the sticky shoulder joints and arm rotation limitations present minor concerns, these are balanced by the figure’s quality and aesthetics, making it a must-have for Wolverine enthusiasts.
With that in mind, Wolverine earns a reasonable:
8.5 out of 10 ToyBoxes.
I thought about getting Deadpool, but from what I've seen, it looks like a re-release of previous Deadpool figures. But there was no doubt that I'd be snagging this Wolverine, and I definitely recommend you do the same! Until next time... GEEK OUT!!!
