Welcome to another Dan's ToyBox review. This time we're focusing on the Hasbro G.I. Joe Retro Card Series: Beachhead action figure. As much as I enjoy the Classified series, with the more modern take on the G.I. Joe and Cobra teams, I really appreciate the Retro Card series, with their throwback look to the original costume designs.
Beachhead, the tough-as-nails Army Ranger and drill instructor, has been a fan-favorite G.I. Joe character since his introduction in 1986. Known for his no-nonsense attitude and exceptional combat skills, Beachhead has now stormed into the Classified Series Retro line, bringing a wave of nostalgia with his classic look.
Accessories 9/10
Beachhead comes loaded with an impressive array of weaponry and gear that would make any Joe envious. His arsenal includes:
Rifle with removable magazine
Pistol with removable suppressor
Crossbow
Two knives
Two grenades
Backpack
Satchel
The attention to detail on these accessories is commendable. The rifle, a modern take on his vintage weapon, features removable parts and compatibility with blast effects. The inclusion of a functional crossbow, which was merely sculpted detail on the vintage figure's backpack, is a delightful touch that adds play value.
One minor gripe is the green plastic used for the submachine gun, which doesn't quite match the gray magazines on his vest. However, this is a small issue in an otherwise excellent accessory package.
Appearance 8/10
Beachhead's Retro Series look is a triumphant return to his classic design. The vibrant green and brown ensemble perfectly captures the essence of the character we know from the vintage toy line and cartoon series. The vest with iconic ammo mags and the balaclava are spot-on representations of Beachhead's signature look.
The figure's overall paint application is effective, with most parts cast in the final plastic color and limited detail paint. However, there are some minor issues around the eyes and mask area. The eyebrows appear slightly off, placed a bit too high and close together, which becomes noticeable in close-up photos and there is some small flesh speckling on the green balaclava.
Additionally, the camouflage pattern on the pants could benefit from more green paint to enhance the effect. Despite these small critiques, the figure's appearance is still highly satisfying, especially when displayed alongside other Retro series figures.
Articulation 7/10
Beachhead boasts the standard articulation we've come to expect from the Classified Series, allowing for a wide range of dynamic poses. The figure features:
Double-jointed knees and elbows
Ball-jointed head and shoulders
Swivel-hinge wrists and ankles
Ab crunch and waist swivel
One notable improvement is the hinged neck, which allows Beachhead to look up better than some more recent figures in the line. However, there are limitations to the torso articulation, partly due to the vest design. The leg straps attached to the belt also hinder hip and leg movement slightly, making some poses, like kneeling, more challenging to achieve.

Priced in line with other figures in the Classified Series, Beachhead offers good value for money considering the quality of the figure and the abundance of accessories. The nostalgic packaging, reminiscent of the classic black card design, adds to the overall appeal and collectability factor.
Overall, the G.I. Joe Classified Series Retro Beachhead is a solid addition to the line that successfully blends nostalgia with modern action figure design.
